Party names top Democrat of the year

Lake County Democrats have selected Jane Hepting as 2011 Democrat of the Year.

"The Democrat of the Year Award is presented to a Lake Democrat who has been particularly active and effective during the previous year," said Nancy Hurlbert, party chairwoman. Runners-up for the award were Kathy Weaver of Clermont and Janet Manchon of Mount Dora.

Here are a few of Hepting's accomplishments:

n Appointed to serve as Precinct Development Chair.

n She assisted canvassing and phone bank operations through the summer of 2011, and coordinated a Labor Day blitz.

n Came up with Action Saturday, in which volunteers gather every Saturday to work on phone banks and precincts.

"Jane continues to be the main leader in the Northwest Campaign Committee, organizing numerous successful Action Saturdays, Hurlbert said.
