-- City of Clermont Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled Summer Camp 2009 from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday, June 15 to Aug. 7 at Clermont Elementary School and McKinney Park, 901 Bloxam Ave., Clermont for children in grades K to 5. -- City of Minneola has scheduled a Community Services EXPO called "I LOVE MY COMMUNITIES !" from 6 - 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday in City Hall. A Community Services EXPO is a gathering of Non-Profit organizations in the community to help provide any aspect of assistance to those in need and to also provide opportunities to those individuals who want to help.
Many people who are in need of different services do not know where to turn for help. The Expo will provide the means to bring both organizations and community together in one location.
This is not just for the City of Minneola, all communities of Lake County are welcome. Agencies are encouraged to call with both an organization name and the services the agency can provide. Booth space is $35. The first 50 organizations to sign up will be provided with a table and two chairs. Any additional organizations will be asked to bring their own table. -- The Minneola Schoolhouse Library has scheduled an Adult Workshop entitled "Managing Money in Tough Times" at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19. Lake County Extension Services representative Julie England will be the speaker. The workshop is free however, because of space limitations, pre-registration is required. -- The Minneola Schoolhouse Library has also scheduled summer reading programs for children and teens until Friday, July 17. Weekly prize drawings will be held and no registration is needed, but a library card is required.
-- Juneteenth of Clermont, Inc. have scheduled a celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27 in Jenkins Auditorium, 685 W. Montrose St., Clermont. EBON recording artists will be the featured guests. -- The residents of Kings Ridge community in Clermont have organized a community wide donation program called So Other May Eat (SOME) to benefit the FAITH Neighborhood Center. With a community of over 2,000 homes, a small donation monthly by each resident has yielded a steady flow of items for the Center. The Royal Clubhouse in Kings Ridge serves as the donation location.
Volunteers from the communities keep the donation box empty, making several trips a week to FAITH, the coordinators of SOME are Anne Bulmer and Nancy Karmann.
-- "JUKE BOX," an acappella Doo-Wop group is looking for baritone or bass singers, both men and women with lower voices are encouraged to audition. "JUKE BOX" is a singing group made up of residents from Clermont and south Lake County and performs locally. For more information, call John Caggiano at 536-1466.
-- City of Minneola Recreation Department has scheduled a half day Summer Camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning Monday until Friday, July 31 (eight one week sessions) at Minneola Trailhead Park. A camp Director and staff will supervise many fun filled activities such as sports, games, nature walks, arts & crafts, wacky water days and science fun based on weekly themes.
Campers will bring own lunch, drink and a snack. The fee for Minneola residents is $30 per child per week; non-residents fee is $40 per child per week with a one time registration fee of $15 per family.
Advance registration is required as there are limited spaces available. To register call 394-3598 ext.227 or register in person at Minneola Recreation Dept., City Hall, 800 N. U.S. Hwy. 27.

-- Downtown Clermont Farmer's Market, scheduled from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Sunday featuring fresh produce, Yalaha Bakery bread, outdoor plants, honey and many other wonderful items. -- Weight Watchers have scheduled meetings at 9 a.m. every Saturday at Windermere Union Church, United Church of Christ, 10710 Park Ridge Gotha Road, Windermere. Visitors and members are welcome to attend for a weigh-in and then stay for discussion on nutrition, activity, healthy habits and successes to celebrate. -- The Minneola Front Porch Book Club is scheduled at 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Minneola Schoolhouse Library. All are welcome to attend.

-- The FAITH Neighborhood Center is a non-profit organization, part of the Human Care Network, and is the lead agency in South Lake for providing aid to the needy. All services are free to those who are income eligible throughout south Lake County including the cities of Clermont, Minneola, Mascotte, Montverde and Groveland, and all points between and south to the Polk County line. Approximately 800 families per month are presently being served and with the down turn in the economy the number is growing every day. Because of the increased need, the shelves are emptying faster than the donations are coming through the door. Donations of clothing and small household items are also appreciated. For more information, call the Center at 429-1200 during operating hours: from 9 a.m. - noon Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays. The Center is located at 7432 S.R. 50, just east of Groveland.
