Tea time for kids helps library

MINNEOLA -- The word is getting out that there's a new library in town.
Though usually serene, Minneola's schoolhouse library was abuzz with the energy and excitement of nearly two dozen children for a teddy-bear tea party Monday.
Librarian MaryKay McGuire, the morning's hostess, read stories to the children and led them in song before making sure each teddy bear went home with a child.
After storytime near the main entrance, the children and bears sat around a small table in the children's section of the library for apple juice -- their makeshift tea -- and teddy bear-shaped cookies.
"This was our very first event for the little ones at the library and I think it was a smashing success," McGuire said. "It looked like everyone just had a great time. I know I did."
Since the library's grand opening on April 18, visitors have trickled in as they discover that the historical house on Main Avenue and Pearl Street is now a county library.
As they enter, most people find that the amenities are the same as at the county's other 14 libraries, complete with books, DVDs, online computer access and programs.
The main difference is the glimpse into the city's history through old photographs and historical items donated to and collected by local historian Mary Jane Lange during her 18-year tenure as the city's utility billing manager.
