Academy holds centennial anniversary
Montverde
Staff Report
Montverde Academy will be celebrating its centennial anniversary with a special gala in Orlando on Oct. 27 featuring "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Darrell Hammond and Grammy award-winning musical group "Blues Traveler."
Although the gala at the Rosen Shingle Creek is not open to the public, the school will be having other weekend activities that people can attend, including campus tours and a MVA Junior Varsity Boys' football game.
Montverde Academy is an educational institution that has matured from a modest country day school into an international, coeducational, independent college preparatory school serving grades PK3-12 with a boarding program serving grades 7-12 and post-graduate studies. It began in 1912 as the vision of Kentucky native Dr. Henry P. Carpenter, who envisioned a school where students could participate in a physical labor and school curriculum; he named that school the "Montverde Industrial School."
Montverde Academy instructs nearly 1,000 students on a daily basis, including more than three-hundred boarding students from 13 states across America and 49 countries throughout the world. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Florida Council of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Indepen-dent Schools, and the Florida Kinder-garten Council.
