Lake County Activity Center hosts garage sale
Carolina Garcia, owner, Lake County Adult Activity Center in Clermont is hosting a garage sale fundraiser for the center, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, 1172 Grand Highway in Clermont.
The center opened in 2009. It serves seniors in an ongoing effort to help those afflicted with Alzheimer's disease cope by stimulating the brain, exercise, dominoes, memory games, bingo and socializing with others.

Beta Sigma Phi, a non-college sorority chapter located in Clermont is looking for members.

Volunteer mentors are needed for high school students in the Take
Stock scholarship program.
The school-based mentoring
program requires no tutoring, just
a commitment to meet with the assigned student a minimum of
three times per month during the school year.

Butterfly workshop with Marc Minno on Oct. 13
Have you ever wondered why your gardens are not full of beautiful butterflies and pollinators?
Dr. Marc Minno, the author of many butterfly books, including "Butterfly Gardening in Florida," will answer that very question and more in his upcoming workshop to be held at B.B. Brown's Gardens at the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail in Clermont.
Registration is now open for the workshop at firstname.lastname@example.org, and is due by Sept. 28.
Cost is $20 for Scrub-Jay Trail members, and $25 for non-members.

Art League to offer One Stroke Painting series
Kathie Camara will teach One Stroke Basic Strokes Level 1 in a new six week series of classes will begin on Saturday at the South Lake Art League's Cagan Studio, 16640 Cagan Crossings Blvd., in the 4 Corners area of Clermont from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost for the complete series is $180 ($30/week or pay $150 in advance for a $30 savings).
Students will learn brush basics, basic strokes, and elements of design to paint new flowers each week while painting a set of canvas placemats for use in their homes.

'Taste of Fall' at the Cooper Memorial Library
Cookbook author and television personality Valerie Hart joins us for the "Taste of Fall" cooking series, noon to 2 p.m., on Oct. 3, in room 108 A, at the library, 2525 Oakley Seaver Dr.
Hart will present, "Soups & Salads" showing guests how to create tasty dishes using seasonal foods, including pumpkins, corn, squash, etc., and she will give tips on how to use pumpkins and flowers to create a lovely table centerpiece.
