South Lake stops Evans

GROVELAND -- Ashley Merritt scored 24 points Thursday to lead South Lake to a 72-42 win against Orlando Evans.

Tamica Mora added 22 for the Eagles.

Trinity Prep 56, Montverde 45

Natalie Bell had 28 to lead Winter Park Trinity Prep to victory against Montverde Academy.

Tomi Akipeditde paced Montverde Academy with 21 points, while Ruta Valialyle added 17.

Boys Basketball

James Bell scored 14 points to lead Montverde Academy.

East Ridge 57, Melbourne 51

Robert Brown and Steve Forbes led the way with 25 and 20 points, respectively, as East Ridge defeated Melbourne, 57-51.

Mal Hooks was the high scorer for Melbourne with 12 points.

Baseball

The Matulia All-star Baseball School will holding tryouts for a USSSA 11-U team that will begin play in January.

Tryouts will be held at the Lake-Sumter Community College Baseball Complex, in Leesburg on Dec. 19 at 11a.m. Players must not turn 12 until May 1, 2010
