Sex sting costs man 4 years in prison
CLERMONT
Staff Report
A 24-year-old Lakeland man, who said he was in the U.S. Marines, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison this week for his involvement in a Clermont sex string last June.
Joshua Burns-Rivera received 46.5 months after being convicted on charges of traveling to meet a minor for illegal sexual conduct, use on the internet to lure a child, and attempted lewd and lascivious conduct.
Burns-Ri-vera was one of 32 men arrested as part of operation "Sum-mer Nights," in which Lake County Sheriff's Of-fice deputies posed as 9- to 14-year-old girls to see if they could lure sexual-predators to a house in the Four Corners area after online posts and chats.
The men -- some carrying Skittles, M&Ms, vodka, condoms and lubricants -- were arrested when they showed up at the house.
"These suspects came with the intention of having sex with a child, instead they went to jail," Sheriff Gary Borders said at the time.
Also arrested in the sting was former Tampa Bay Buccaneers luxury suite manager Brian Weiss, 39, convicted earlier this month on one count of using a facility of interstate commerce to persuade, induce or entice a child.
