-- Clermont High School's "Academic Boosters" will benefit from the proceeds of the recent Las Vegas Night sponsored by Beta Theta ESA. Chapter member Dayle Matthews presented a check to CHS teacher Dr. Lucy Harward and Academic Booster Alice Schalk.

In the Poetry Guild section, Arthur Jordan's "My Island" won most votes with Virginia Homrocky and Betty Bethune as close runners-up.
-- Montverde City Council dropped consideration of a parking ordinance, following recommendation of Streets and Water Committee Chairman John Roberts, who stated members' consensus was that it was not necessary at this time.
Council had expressed concern about parking problems at the Post Office and area stores fronting Highway 455, with people parking on right-of-way.
-- The Reedy Creek Improvement District, the utility company for the Walt Disney World resort property, is continuing to negotiate the $10 million purchase of 1,800 acres of former and current grove lands south of Clermont for use as a wastewater site. The property, located in the southeast corner of Lake County, is adjacent to an additional 1,000 acres purchased in the southwest corner of Orange County, which will also be used to filter treated sewage from the 27,443 acre Walt Disney World property.
-- Representatives from Lake County cities that voted last year to reject a county inter local agreement to allow the county to incinerate their garbage met at Tavares City Hall to discuss the incinerator's ramifications.
Organizers spoke of working with the current County Commission to press for a renegotiation of the contract signed with Ogden Martin Systems/NRG Recovery, Inc.
Of Lake's 14 cities, Mount Dora, Eustis, Astatula and Leesburg voted to accept the contract. The requirement was later dropped from the contract for approval from cities with 75% of the population in incorporated areas.

-- At a public hearing March 14, County Commissioners heard results of a Water and Wastewater Feasibility study conducted by engineering firm PBS&J. In 1987 there were 105 wastewater treatment package plants, now there are 120.
It costs up to $80,000 per year for the county to monitor these package plants. Fifty-five percent of the facilities are out of compliance and 90% are in violation of their permits.
Future Board decisions include whether to encourage sub-regionalization of water and sewer plants, where they are to be located, when they are to be constructed, how large each should be, how they are to be financed and who will own and operate the facilities.
-- Kiwanis Club of Clermont and South Lake Ministerial Association will sponsor Good Friday service at New Jacobs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Clermont and Easter Sunday service at the Citrus Tower Picnic area at 6:30 a.m.
-- United Telephone Company reports Lake County added 4,865 telephone access lines, giving it a 6.79% growth rate.
-- Despite protest from vocal opponents, County Commissioners voted 4-1 (Richard Swartz dissenting) to rezone 170 acres from Agricultural to Rural Residential. The site in the Sugarloaf Mountain area is adjacent to property on CR 561 already zoned RR. This will allow density to increase from one unit per five acres to one unit per acre.
Petitioner Silver Fox Development, represented by Leesburg attorney Cecelia Bonifay, had received a 5-3 denial from County Planning and Zoning. P&Z members voting against the denial included Chairman Jay Vander Meer and Greg Homan, both representing District 3, which includes the Sugarloaf Mountain area.
As a Clermont City Council member, Hal Turville stated Clermont is responsible to maintain the infrastructure for growth. He anticipates Clermont's citizens providing infrastructure for people outside the area, as there are no infrastructures available in the Sugarloaf Mountain area, which is approximately six miles from Clermont, the nearest area with fire protection and schools. (The area is now under the jurisdiction of the City of Minneola.)
-- Petitioner Richard H. Langley Trust was approved to revoke a CUP in Agricultural and rezone 241 acres to a Planned Unit Development on land between Groveland and Clermont north of SR 50 and consists of 1.24 units per gross unit acres.
The PUD doubles the existing nine-hole Green Valley Country Club course. Mr. Langley expects public use of the 18 holes by January of 1990.
-- Petitioner A.C. Janney/Associates of Christian Ministries was approved to amend a CUP to add an additional 80 acres, for a total of 150 acres, to expand an existing youth camp property on Youth Camp Road off Austin Merritt Road.
