Wreckage of plane being examined by salvage firm

An experimental aircraft that crashed April 2 into a DeLand supermarket is being examined at a Groveland aviation salvage facility.
A spokesperson confirmed April 4 that the remains of the plane were brought to Quality Aircraft Salvage, 12215 Mattioda Road. The company -- which is fully equipped to handle aircraft recovery and transport -- specializes in salvaging single and light twin planes, along with experimental and home-built aircraft.
The spokesperson said the public is not allowed on the pro-perty while officials with the National Transportation Safety Board comb through the wreckage to try and figure out what caused the Seawind 3000 to fall from the sky. The plane is generally sold as a kit and built at home by the owner.
Luke Schiada, the NTSB's senior air safety investigator, gave no timetable as to when the investigation would be complete, but said it would be difficult because the plane burned.
