More than 100 artists are ex-pected to beautify downtown Clermont with their works of art -- at least for the day.
They'll be creating chalk masterpieces right on Montrose Street for the sixth annual Earth Day and Sidewalk Chalk Art Con-test planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The contest, hosted by Cler-mont's Downtown Partnership, will award cash prizes for winners in all categories.
"The artists have fun with it and I'm amazed with the amount of talent in the area," event chair Ron Smart said.
The actual drawing kicks off at 9 a.m.
The participants will be broken down into three different age groups, each with its own cash prize.
Judging is planned for 2 p.m.
For the contest, all registrants will receive a box of 24 chalk pastels and a space where they will be expected to proceed with a "before your very eyes" original drawing on a 38-inch by 50-inch sheet of white paper that will be taped to the sidewalk.
Spectators and judges will be allowed to watch and when the winners are announced at 2 p.m., their drawings will be displayed in the windows of various downtown businesses.
Smart said Crown Shredding will be in attendance for those wishing to bring documents or files they've had laying around that need disposing of in a proper manner, i.e. shredding.
Attendees will also be treated to skits and entertainment by a local drama group called Humor Resources, formerly known as The Vaudevillians.
