Ultra Precision is latest manufacturing business
Ultra Precision is another manufacturing business in Clermont. Oakley Seaver of Harold Robert Realty made the sale of the former Kometco building on south Grand Highway (just south of and across from RaceTrac).
Ultra Precision manufactures high precision, close tolerance tools and dies for such products as transistors, telephones and computers and has made parts for everything from Timex watches to rotors for large election motors.
Old Time Country Festival was a hit
The third annual Old Time Country Festival was held at Lake David Park March 28 and 29 with an arts and crafts show and contests that included baking, fishing and casting, checkers, hog calling, "Put Your City Officials in Jail," and auction, horseshoes, tobacco spitting, arm wrestling, tug-o-war, ugliest cowboy hat, egg toss, bubble gum blowing, old-time fiddlers, marbles, "bull" championship arm wrestling and the greased pole. There was also live county western music and plenty of good food both days.
Entertainment included a history display of the pre-Groveland era up to World War II, a water skiing exhibition, demonstrations by the Groveland Squares and Sei-Pai Karate, and a flower show by the Groveland Garden Club.

-- University of Florida commencement exercises included Miss Kathleen Conley of Clermont, who received a B.S. degree in advertising.
-- Clermont's historic Lester H. Todd house, located at 486 Osceola St., has been placed on the real estate market. The house, built in 1885, is prominently featured in Clermont's Centennial book, "Clermont, Gem of the Hills."
-- Program planners for the Gamma Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society's international meeting were Patty Hamilton, Carolyn McGowan, Sharon Powell and Jacque Wilson.
-- During February, the Clermont Neighborhood Center served 481 people from 167 families, with 11 volunteers serving 114 hours.
-- Ninety mile-an-hour fastballs, honest-to-goodness Coney dogs and a 16-story Ferris wheel known affectionately as "The Big Wheel" will be part of the new theme park, Boardwalk and Baseball, which opens April 4, just south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Interstate 4.
-- Paul J. Boylan of the financial services firm Edward D. Jones and Co. is finalizing plans to open an office in Clermont.
-- Fran Campbell is manager of Valu Video, a new business in the Winn Dixie Plaza with movies renting for 99 cents each.

Peggy Broome named Little Miss Minneola
Miss Peggy Broome, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harper Broome of Minneola, became Little Miss Minneola. She was presented with a $50 U.S. Savings Bond and an engraved bracelet by J. T. Johnson, president of the Minneola Progressive Club, sponsor of Minneola Day.
Some of the Minneola Day entertainment was furnished by local high school students: David Daw, Steve Ragar, Bruce Kirkland and Clifford Kirkland; Tommie Davis, Jimmy Hunt Jr., Jerry Doto and singer Susan Dack; Sherman McGregor and his guitar, Bert Skipper, Ronnie Skipper and Gene Alleman, and their bands.
-- Clermont High School's junior varsity basketball team members are: Walter Poynter, Steve Watkins, Bobby Gross, Calvin Sanders, Robert Thomas, Ken Osborne, Terry Craig, John Driggers, Alan Schuster, Allen Roane, Jim Turner, Rick Martin, Chuck Konsler and manager Guy Lillard.
-- Clermont Chamber of Commerce secretary John Stokes has been named to the Lake County Planning and Zoning Commission, District 3.
-- Feb. 28 is primary election day in an historic election. Both Democrats and Republicans will choose candidates for the state Senate and state Legislature. This election is necessary by the federal court ruling on reapportionment.
-- Mackie Kuharske, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard School at Cape May, N.J. He spent several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Kuharske, before reporting to his new assignment on the ship Diligence at Key West.
-- Charles Kuharske, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Kuharske, was inducted into the Florida Military School's chapter of the National Honor Society in DeLand.
-- Former Clermont resident Miss Agnes Johnson of Tallahassee spent several days with her mother and cousin after attending the Florida Southern College alumni day activities in Lakeland and assuming office as president-elect of the FSC alumni.
-- Beta Theta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met at the home of Carol Andrews. Sue Joiner and Eleanor Meade presented a delightful educational program on "Brigadoon." They passed shortbread to eat and all joined in singing songs from Scotland. Members attending the leadership conference in Ocala were incoming chapter President Judy Wolfe and members Terry Moherek, Carol Andrews, Sue Joiner, Donna Kidder and Ann Dupee.
-- The new S&H Green Stamp catalog is now available at Publix. Publix will discontinue giving Green Stamps this summer.
