Clermont High honor roll students named

Clermont High School Principal Norval Brown released the school's honor roll. Students with all "A" grades were: Donna Powell, Brenda Faye Sutton, Andy Olivenbaum, James Carter and Rita McCaffrey.

Students on the "A-B" honor roll were Sandra Gail Hamrick, Frank Lemine, Sally McQuaig, Kathy Padget, Lisa Moore, Diane Lindley, Deborah Shewey, Ralph Ioder, Bruce Taylor, Janice Hos-kinson, Lewis Paul Lineberger, Mary Carr, Debra Hayes, Roland (Bobby) Resler, Patricia Butts, Nancy Viti, Toni Layne, Francis Lynn, Paula Cochran, Natalie Middleton, Daniel Kyle, Diane Harper, Linda McAllister, Deana Burton, Jan Hatcher, Charlene Roberts, Ann Cunningham, Lauren Ann Hodson, Herbert Lee Pharr and Martha Fain Yates.

-- Jimmy Olivenbaum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Olivenbaum, received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida.

-- Pvt. J.K. "Butch" Bolin III, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Bolin Jr., has completed basic training at Ft. Jackson. He leaves for Oakland, Calif., and service in Vietnam.

-- Jennifer Fairchild was honored on her eighth birthday at a party given by her mother, Mrs. J.D. Fairchild, at their Groveland home. Guests were Mary Annette Moody, Denise Barwick, Melody Booth, Diana Hope, Pam McQuaig, Betsy Kay Ogden and Steven Fairchild.

-- A children's health panel featuring comments from Dr. Charles Anderson and Dr. James R. Davis Jr. of Clermont, and Dr. Richard Hedrick, eye specialist from Orlando, will present the program at Clermont Elementary School's PTO meeting.

25 Years Ago -- 1987

-- Chris Griffin of Clermont won first place in the Lake County Curriculum Fair held at the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg. He collected his prize-winning display on "Castles in Scotland" when visiting there to attend his brother's wedding.

-- Brent Pauley (Braves), Steven Napper (Indians) and Eric Ward (Dodgers) were the Little League batting leaders midway in the season with .500 batting averages.

-- Four teams play ladies softball at the Mascotte Community Park Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 and 8 p.m. CBS Industries team members are Amanda Hoskinson, Laura Hettinger, Kathy Hull, Lisa Lovelady, Diane Hoffman, Terry Akers, Dale Rouse, Jennifer Stewart, Allison Hoskins, Bonnie Woodley, Debbie Batman and Wendy Myers. Coach is Rodney Drawdy.

-- The Groveland Girl Scout Mounted Patrol held its 24th annual rodeo at Tin Cup Ranch. Preparing and serving burgers and hot dogs was the food committee consisting of Inez Gill, Suzanne and James Cason, Marion Manning, Dorothy Connor, Bonnie Homan and Cynthia Kuharske. Announcer was Tom Devier; co-leader is Candy Ogden. Senior high point, ages 14 and over, went to Kirsty Connor while junior high point, ages 13 and under, went to Lisa Manning. Events were barrels, poles, keyhole and flag race.

-- Among the 54 Lake County Middle School 4.0 students are Kelli Angel, Natalie Dame, James Hunnicutt, Jennifer Lamp and Jennifer McCabe from Clermont Junior High and Trevor Gentry and Larinda Salyers from Groveland Middle.

-- The Winter Garden Regional Shopping Center will celebrate its grand opening. New owners and management invite the public to the grand opening celebration and barbecue at Lake Susan Lodge and Marina.

-- Linda and David Sheets invite all friends and relatives to join in celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of her parents, Edwin and Dot Kindred.

-- Montverde City Council voted for a charter amendment making the formerly elected city clerk position into an employee of the town, serving at the discretion of council.

-- Rachel Nichols, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Tom Nichols of Clermont, has received the "Outstanding Student in General Communication" award from the College of Communication at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

-- Accounting major Andrew Hettinger made the FSU Dean's List. He is a member of Phi Delta Theta, which presented him with the Outstanding Scholar award.

-- Retiring Lake County School personnel honored at a reception included Shirley McKinney, Groveland Middle School, and Drury Rambo, Clermont Junior High School. Classified personnel honored were Hazel Jones, Clermont High; Irene Kise, Clermont Junior High and Edith Miller from Mascotte Elementary.

-- Orlando's Downtown Athletic Club has chosen Clermont High School senior Lance Walsworth as one of Central Florida's top 13 scholar athletes for 1986-87. Lance is the son of Dan and Connie Walsworth of Suburban Shores.
