It's not clear what injuries if any detective M. France sustained in the incident.
Tanya Lynn Waybright, 30, was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer, simple battery and resisting arrest stemming from the altercation. She was placed in the Lake County jail in lieu of $10,500 bail.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of Kmart on State Road 50 in Clermont sometime before 5 p.m. Wednesday, at which time France was working off duty but had her badge displayed and gun holstered to her side.
According to an arrest affidavit, France was talking with a woman in the parking lot when Waybright allegedly pulled in and parked in front of the woman's vehicle to block it in.
Waybright hopped out allegedly began a confrontation with the woman before she started striking her with an open hand and pushing her. When France attempted to separate the two, she said she was struck by Waybright several times.
It is not clear why Waybright attacked the woman. But the affidavit adds Waybright and France had a previous relationship.
