For the fourth consecutive year, the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Chapter at East Ridge High School was awarded the Florida Gold Achievement Award for exemplary service.
The DECA Chapter at East Ridge High School has joined a select group of chapters willing to offer its efforts and talents to support measures for developing leaders in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
Despite the good news, the honored group at East Ridge could use a little financial help from Lake County residents and the business community to help send the students to the national competition.
The East Ridge High School DECA Chapter is in need of sponsors to assist the group in covering expenses for its trip to the conference. Individuals or businesses interested in sponsoring the club are encouraged to contact Simone Seaton by calling 352-242-2080 ext. 2636 or emailing seatons@lake.k12.fl.us.
"There is a cost to send a student to the national event and not every family can afford a trip," said Chris Patton, the school district's information officer. "If a sponsor can help students take this trip, it would be a good investment because these are our future business leaders.
National DECA also awarded East Ridge High DECA the "Thrive Chapter Campaign" Award for having outstanding chapter activities within the school and community.
Six East Ridge High students earned one of the top six spots at the Florida DECA 53rd Annual Career Development Conference in Lake Buena Vista on Feb. 28-March 3. These students will compete at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Ca., in April.
The six students who were bestowed this recognition are: Mohammad Ali, second place, Business Finance; Mohammad Usman, third place, Principles of Finance; Cameron Cobb, fourth place, Business Services; Tanner Kelly, fifth place, Professional Selling; Rebecca Nour, fifth place, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan; Dadavi Anthonio, fifth place, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan and Samantha Thompson, sixth place, Marketing Management.
