Police: Couple attack teen near school bus stop

A Clermont couple was arrested after the pair allegedly slapped and punched a boy at a school bus stop for reportedly harassing their daughter, police said.
Erik Koa Smith, 28, 231 N. Disston Ave., was charged with battery and booked into the Lake County jail. His wife, Edsandra Macedo, faces battery and obstruction charges, but was released at the scene and given a notice to appear in court.
Clermont police responded to a school bus stop after a 911 call was made by Evelyn Estevez, a bus driver, who witnessed the entire incident near Grand Highway and North Disston Avenue. Estevez told police that Macedo boarded the bus at about 7 a.m. to confront a boy -- said to be about 15 or 16 years old -- in reference to him making inappropriate comments to her daughter.
"She slapped and punched him in the face with her hand, and after she hit him, she (went on) her cell phone and called her husband, Eric Smith," the report reads. "He soon arrived on scene and also punched (the boy) several times in the face."
Clermont police spokesperson Jon Johnson said Monday that the mother, though agitated, should have considered stopping for a moment and thinking about her actions.
Macedo told police she confronted the boy "because of the rude comments he made" toward her daughter. She also said she hit him when he became aggressive towards her.
Macedo claimed her husband was not at the home at the time but he was located and charged, police said. Smith, too, said he hit the boy when the youngster became aggressive.
Johnson said the victim was not seriously injured but had a bloody nose.
Officers took photographs for the State Attorney's Office and the victim was treated for his injuries.
