Dead man left on side of the road
Staff Report
A 33-year-old Davenport man, struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the Four Corners area, remained alongside the road for about four hours before a passerby found his body Thursday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Investigators believe Wilfredo Feliciano Rod-riguez was struck sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. along U.S. Highway 92 near Town Center Boulevard. They said a grey or silver Toyota hit him while he was walking northbound and then fled the scene.
It wasn't until about 7:30 a.m. that a passerby found Rodriguez's body and reported it to authorities, the FHP said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner's office.
Investigators said the suspect vehicle has right front damage, including the headlight assembly, and is now missing its passenger side mirror. Due to the injuries Rodriguez received, investigators believe a larger Toyota vehicle struck him.
The last hit-and-run accident here took place last August when a burgundy sedan that struck a 61-year-old Eustis man, leaving him to die along the side of the road.
The FHP said Douglas Brian Coven, 37808 County Road 439, was walking westbound along County Road 44A, near Osprey Lane, when the vehicle hit him from behind at about 10:30 a.m. The driver then fled the scene, continuing westbound on CR 44A.
