Brothers combine for 33 points in Lake Minneola victory

Avery Brown and twin brother Anthony combined to scored 33 points on Tuesday to lead the Lake Minneola High School boys basketball team to a 54-47 win against Eustis at Lake Minneola.

Avery Brown scored 26 points and Anthony Brown had seven.

Baylus McCoy and Chris Weech had six points apiece for the Hawks (2-1). D'wan Maxwell had four points, Carlyle Holder had three and Cecil Holt added two.

Antwon Clayton led Eustis with 13 points, followed by Dustin Dunham with nine points.

Lake Minneola will get its stiffest test of the season to date when it plays at 7 p.m. today at Montverde Academy.

Leesburg 71, East Ridge 33

Leesburg jumped out to a double-digit lead after the first quarter and coasted to an easy win against East Ridge.

The Yellow Jackets shot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line.

Undra Mitchem paced Leesburg with 16 points. Troy Willis had 14 points and Jabari Dunham added 12.

The Yellow Jackets scored 23 points in each of the first three quarters en route to building a 69-29 lead. The entire fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

Montverde Academy 51, South Lake 34

Gilesya Penzo had 16 points to lead Montverde Academy to the win.

Deanna Denapoli added 13 points for South Lake.

South Lake (1-2) will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Ocala Vanguard.

Boys Soccer

Lake Minneola 7, South Sumter 0

Paulon Thompson scored three goals to led the Hawks to the win on Monday night.

Other goal scorers were Rian Barnett, Ian Emmer-manis, Chris Choong and Carlos Brolo.

Rickie Mortlock had two assists.

On Tuesday, the Hawks played at St. Cloud and picked up a 2-2 tie in a crucial early season district contest.

Thompson and Christ-ian Rosero scored for the Hawks.

Lake Minneola improved to 4-1-1 and hosts Orlando Lake Highland Prep at 7 p.m. today.
