Lake County water plants recognized by state officials

Staff Report

Two Lake County municipal water plants have been recognized for excellence by the Florida Department of Environ-mental Protection.

The city of Leesburg's Royal Highlands facility and the city of Clermont's East Water System "represent the best water treatment and conservation solutions the state has to offer," the DEP stated in a press release.

There are 67 counties in Florida and more than 400 incorporated municipalities, yet only 13 municipal water plants received a 2012 Plant Operations Excellence Award from the DEP's Water Division. Also judged a winner was Ocala's Municipal Water Plant.

Facilities go through a rigorous judging process, with every aspect of their operation scrutinized.

"The facility must maintain an impeccable history of recordkeeping and submission to the department," the press release stated.

Facility activities must all be documented.
