Lake County Manager David Health has hired a No. 2 man.
The new deputy county manager is Bill Veach, director of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Hotels and Restaurants in Tallahassee. He has 25 years of public sector experience that includes project management, strategic planning and financial operations and budgeting.
Veach, picked from a list of 130 candidates for the job, starts work on April 1.
"I'm rounding out my team," Heath said. "He (Veach) has an enormous amount of experience. He has managed a large number of people before. He has been a city manager. He has been a public information officer. He has been an executive director of two nonprofit organizations. He is currently working with the state, and he manages more than 300 people as a division manager."
Heath, who was elevated from deputy county manager when former County Manager Darren Gray resigned to manage the city of Clermont, said he took his time looking for a No. 2 man because he want to get the right person for the job. Heath said Veach will concentrate on things like community issues and working with county departments.
But there could be some cross-over responsibilities.
"I will look at the work chart and see which areas would play to our strengths," Heath said. "Then we will sit down and decide what is best for the team."
