n SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) have scheduled free, unbiased counseling sessions by trained volunteers to assist with the annual enrollment of Medicare Part D. SHINE volunteers will be at Jenkins Auditorium from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Bring either the prescription bottles or a list of prescriptions. If unable to visit Jenkins, call the Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337.

n The new Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia Support Group of Clermont has scheduled a meeting at 2 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Fairfield Inn & Suites,1750 Hunt Trace Blvd., Clermont. Respite care is available during the meeting at Superior Residences of Clermont, 1600 Hunt Trace Blvd. for a fee of $5 per hour.

n The Pink Ribbon Ladies' breast cancer support group meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the National Training Center.

n The Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation's cancer support group meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at 927 7th Street in Clermont.

Both groups are available to help community neighbors that either recently began their journey with cancer or just need support from one of the support groups.

n The new Community Cancer Library is located at InterCommunity Cancer Institute in the South Lake Hospital campus. Check out books related to many types of cancer, get free pamphlets, look up needed information on the computer or talk with a cancer survivor. n The City of Minneola Recreation Department has scheduled fitness walking and exercise opportunities for all Seniors and adults from 7:45 to 9 a.m. every Thursday and Friday in the City Hall Gymnasium. No registration is necessary and the cost is free. This is a great way to keep fit and socialize at the same time. For more information, call 394-3598 ext.229

n Lake County Health Department has opened a Vital Statistics Office at South Lake Hospital Centre for Women's Health, 1099 Citrus Tower Blvd. The hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

The Office of Vital Statistics will offer certified birth certificates for persons born from1930 to the present in Florida and death certificates for the past year.

State of Florida birth certificates are $15 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy purchased.

Death certificates are public records and anyone may obtain certified copies for a fee. Fees for certified death certificates are $12 each.

n South Lake Hospital's Honey Jean Smoak mamography and Imaging Center, located in the Centre for Women's Health, has opened an additional Digital mammography Suite to assist women in the fight against breast cancer. The center provides a variety of diagnostic services to women. For more information, call 241-7135.

n The Central Florida Chapter of the American Lung Association is currently seeking dedicated individuals to participate in the formation of a South Lake County Board of Advisors. The mission of the American Lung Association of Florida is to prevent lung disease and promote lung health through education, research and advocacy.
