Take a break from frantic holiday preparations this week at some local events. Receive the gift of laughter with stand-up comedy at the Clermont Comedy Series on Friday with Philadelphia, Shannon Hall and Ron Feingold. Tickle your palette with international food, beer and wine at the Taste of the World along with live bands, DJ's and a Christmas shopping area on Saturday at Waterfront Park in Clermont. For a relaxed evening visit Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis with holiday lights throughout the complex, a woods trail, campfire, music and an astronomer. For runners, there's a half marathon in the rolling hills of Mount Dora, or enjoy the slower paced 5k run/walk.

Clermont Comedy Series

The Clermont Comedy Series presents Philadelphia, Shannon Hall and MC Ron Feingold Friday at the Black Box Theater at the Clermont Performing Arts Center, 3700 S. U.S. Highway 27. Doors open at 7, show starts at 8 p.m. Headliner Philadelphia has become a favorite — with television appearances in commercials and as a stand-up, dramatic and comedic actor — with stories about his mother, kids and marriage. Taste of the World

Spend a day with family and friends and enjoy an international array of food at Taste of the World from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at Waterfront Park, 10 Third Street in Clermont. Vendors will have small plates for sale for $3 to $7 and beer and wine from local and national companies will be available. There will be live bands, DJs, a Polynesian dancer, Christmas shopping area, VIP Craft Beer tasting area and a beer and wine garden. There will also be a children's area with treats and activities. Cost is $10.50. Kids under age 10, senior citizens and veterans are fee. Craft beer sampling includes admission, five 3 oz. craft beer or wine samples and hors devours for $26. Holiday Lights in the Woods

Trout Lake Nature Center will be transformed to a magical refuge with festive decorations, live holiday music and sparkling lights throughout the complex and along the woods trail from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at 520 E. County Road 44 in Eustis. On the spacious dock overlooking Trout Lake, an astronomer will offer his expertise to star-gazers — a limited number of loaner binoculars will be available. The education center and museum will be open to guests, who can enjoy holiday refreshments in the glow of a campfire. Suggested donation is $5 per car. Details at 352-357-7536.

Half Marathon

Wind through the gentle rolling hills of Mount Dora Sunday in the 5th annual Mount Dora Half Marathon at Elizabeth Evans Park, 100 N. Donnelly Street in Mount Dora. All participants are chip timed and receive a finisher medal. A 5K run/walk and virtual half marathon are offered. A portion of the proceeds help support Run 4 a Cause Foundation.
