LEESBURG — A Leesburg man is wanted on felony animal cruelty charges after a witness reportedly saw him violently disciplining his puppy.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy and animal control officer responded to Lakewood Drive on Jan. 27 where a witness said David Pollard, 25, attempted to discipline the puppy for going into a neighbor’s yard.

The pit bull mix puppy hid under a vehicle and Pollard allegedly used the wooden handle of a rake to violently poke the puppy. The witness told deputies he noticed the puppy was favoring its left hind leg and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

The puppy was transported to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Leesburg where it was discovered the dog had a fractured leg.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Pollard should call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 352-343-2101.
