CLERMONT — The grand opening of the new 26,000-square-foot Clermont police station will take place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 24 at 3600 S. U.S. Highway 27 and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by an open house and tours for the public.

The police department is currently housed in downtown Clermont with little parking and no room for additions. When the downtown station was built, it housed a staff of 24 officers. Doris Bloodworth, city spokeswoman, said Saturday the new state-of-the-art station was built to meet a rapidly growing population and a department that is now close to 70 officers.

The structure cost about $9 million to build and another $1 million has been allotted for “soft costs,” such as permitting, furniture and equipment.
