A 49-year-old Clermont man was charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly beat his girlfriend with a baseball bat after she hid his alcohol, according to an arrest affidavit.
Edward Guiffre remained in the Lake County Jail Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Clermont police were summoned to a doctor’s office on State Road 50 because the physician said he was treating a woman and saw injuries consistent with a battery, the affidavit states. The woman said the battery happened because she hid alcohol from her boyfriend because of his excessive drinking.
“The victim stated the defendant hit her with a wooden baseball bat approximately three times in the upper hip area of the victim’s right side, causing a deep purple welt and excessive swelling and bruising,” the arresting officer said.
The woman also said she was punched in the face several times, with the officer observing a large purple bruise on the right side of her forehead and a severely swollen and bruised left eye.
Guiffre, who was in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, was arrested but refused to speak to the officer, the affidavit states.
